In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create a falling fantasy photomanipulation using stock images and some digital painting techniques. You’ll learn how to extract, preserve and recreate flowing hair, and you’ll learn how to manipulate twirling vines.

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to create a surreal time-themed photomanipulation using Photoshop. The name of this photomanipulation is “Time Guardian” and it was originally created by Mariusz Karasiewicz . I want to take this opportunity to thank him for collaborating with me on this tutorial.
Big shout out to Trey Ratcliff for clearing things up for me with HDR’s–he has a great tutorial and I will always be a fan of his amazing work–to Nicalai, for taking this wonderful picture and, last but not least, to Abduzeedo for making this public.
We start from this original picture, that my good friend Nicalai took on a night in Milano. First, we want to add some cool night tint to this. So, we lower the Temperature a bit, let’s say -32 and play with the other sliders as you see fit.
There are lots of ways to create swirls in Illustrator, you can even download vectors from sites such as bittbox and dezignus, and if you are using Photoshop you can download brushes with those sorts of symbols.
However in this tutorial I will show 4 ways to create swirls, and by mixing them you will learn some very powerful techniques that will allow you to easily make tons of different styles of swirls and crazy sperm vectors.
In the beginning you should find the picture of ay fruit or vegetable. I prefer to use this one picture of pear. Open up the picture.
Using textures applied to text is an effective way to create dynamic looking text, and even creating 3D style text effects solely in Photoshop. Using some photomanipulation techniques, textures can be applied and blended together to create a surreal work with a realistic feeling.
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create 3D text within Photoshop, along with a nice stylish background, and then apply textures and bring out some awesome details in your work.
Any object can be used for this effect, but an object with well defined edges would no doubt make your job much easier. In this example, we have selected a feather as the object around which we will create the ripple effect.
3D text effects are common elements in graphic design and advertising. The extra depth dimension allows images to visually pop from the page, and provide excellent building blocks for development of an image. A variety of tools can be used to create them, but creation of 3D text effects often requires significant time, patience, and knowledge.
